This month we will observe three events.  First, the end of Daylight Saving Time, November 06, 2011 at 2 A.M. Research has proven that Daylight time is less useful inFlorida than in many other states because of its southern location. There is opposition to DST inFlorida. In March 2008, Florida State Senator Bill Posey introduced a bill in theFlorida legislature to abolish daylight time in the state and keepFlorida on year-round standard time. BecauseFlorida is in two time zones, theFlorida legislature has the option of retuning all or part of the state to standard time zone boundaries.

Second, Veterans Day, November 11, an annual U.S.holiday to honor military veterans. It is a federal holiday. It is also celebrated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War 1. Major hostilities were ended at the 11^th hour of the 11^th day of the 11^th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice (ceasefire). Make sure you thank a veteran. We must never forget our brave young men and women who risk their lives so we may remain a free nation.

Thanksgiving, November 24, always celebrated on the 4^th Thursday in November. The initial Thanksgiving holiday tradition traces its origins to a 1621 celebration atPlymouthMassachusetts.University ofFlorida teachers Gioia and Gannon argue that the earliest attested “Thanksgiving” celebration in theUnited States was celebrated by the Spanish on September 8, 1565 in what is nowSaint Augustine,Florida. Many years later it has become symbolic with the beginning of theHoliday season leading to Christmas.

(Orlando FLORIDA)     The Florida Federation of Republican Women announced today that officers have been elected by the delegates of the FFRW Biennial Convention to lead the organization for a two year term beginning on January 1, 2012.

Cindy Graves will be serving her second and final term as FFRW president.

“I cannot think of a bigger honor than to serve these tenacious grassroots leaders during this pivotal election cycle. Our 2012 officers are all accomplished women in the political process.Women account for the greatest percentage of the vote nationwide and the FFRW will again lead the state in volunteer recruitment for our nominee for the next President of United States,” Graves said.

The 2011 FFRW Convention was held in Orlando during Presidency 5 and the Florida Straw Poll where nearly all attendees were also delegates. Activities included a roll-out of the organization’s new brand: “Politics is Women’s Work” and their political action plan for 2012.

Sue Lynch, president of the National Federation of Republican Women, traveled from Washington DC to be part of the FFRW Convention and Presidency 5.

The members of the FFRW saluted RNC Co-chair Sharon Day at a party in her honor where RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll and others addressed the group. On Friday morning Representative Will Weatherford discussed redistricting at the FFRW breakfast. On Saturday morning, CFO Jeff Atwater hosted a special breakfast in honor of the Florida Federation of Republican Women at the Peabody Hotel.

2012 FFRW Officers are as follows:

Cindy Graves has been nominated as one of five finalists for the prestigious National Federation of Republican Women Ronald Reagan Award which recognizes a state president for leadership both in her state and nationally.

She is also the Republican State Committeewoman of Duval County. At the Republican Party of Florida State Committee she serves as Chair RPOF Community Relations Committee and the Vice Chair RPOF 4th Congressional Caucus. Graves co-hosts a popular radio show “What’s the Buzz” on WBOB Conservative Talk Radio with newly elected RPOF Chairman, Lenny Curry.

Adam Hasner is a lifelong Republican who believes in limited government, free markets and a strong national defense. He is 100% pro-life and received an “A+” rating from the National Rifle Association for his record on second amendment issures.

Despite being from Democrat-controlled Palm Beach County, Adam won reelection three times with a conservative voting record.

Adam served in the Florida Legislature alongside Marco Rubio for six years. Marco liked him so much he picked Adam to serve as Majority Leader for the Republican Caucus.
